Nelson Gift

Congratulations to everyone who helped make Louis Nelson's dream come true. In 2008, Nelson left OCT 1.6 acres of land, including 190 feet of frontage on Pilgrim Lake. He asked only that OCT raze the house and restore the site to its natural state. Vice-president David Shactman guided this project to a happy ending, from fund-raising and checking for asbestos to hiring F.L. Quinn to demolish the house this summer. Thanks especially to neighbors who made substantial donations to create this new pocket park on Arey's Lane, accessible only to walkers. Thanks also to the Orleans Community Preservation Act Committee and voters for agreeing to put up a safety net of money, which we didn't need. This wonderful bequest will help preserve the water quality in Pilgrim Lake, provide a wildlife corridor from the woods to shore and create an oasis for the many people who walk around the lake
